Special Note: This is our very first ever planted box!!!
Special note #2: These three boxes are in an area with a TON of spiders. You will have to walk around those monsters to get to the boxes, if you are scared of spiders, don't bother!
Also, this area FLOODS. If there has been a lot of rain, don't bother!
The Bird of the World box was designed by 7 year old Little Chee. It began with an image of an owl located in the aviary at the Bear Creek Park Zoo. As she drew it, it became her own bird, not some silly old owl! I carved it for her, as I am one of those mothers who think 7 year olds and sharp implements aren’t meant to be together. There are two other boxes of ours planted near this box, also Wake Up is located very nearby.
From I-10 west, go north on Hwy 6. Take a right at Patterson Rd. Left on Bear Creek. The second possible turn on your right is into the Equestrian trail area of Bear Creek Park. Park in lot.
Find green pipe fence. From east end of green fence (left if facing away from the parking lot) walk 35 steps at 100 degrees (east) to entrance of small trail. Go down trail about 110 steps. At 20 degrees (on your right) about 12 steps off the trail, you will see a large tree with 4 trunks. The letterbox is about 5 feet off the ground almost to the back side of this tree, wedged between the trunk and a very thick vine.
Please place the letterbox back exactly where you found it!
(To get to the Zoo from this parking lot, go back to Bear Creek Rd, take a left. Take another left on Patterson. Left on Eldridge. Your next left (at a light) will take you right into the park. The animals and birds are on your left side! ( If the park office is open, the lovely employees will let you see red eared sliders and a corn snake, and maybe even have on hand coloring books for kids!)
