DIFFICULTY: Easy terrain, but tricky to be stealthy!
DISTANCE to LETTERBOX: 15 yards.
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: This area of the lake is busy from dawn til dusk with cyclists, runners, rowers, walkers and picnickers. Bring a camera or a pet to disguise your letterboxing activities, and please drive slowly and carefully around the lake.(A good Texas Letterboxing buddy has recommended gloves & closed-toe shoes to combat critters & fire ants...)
DIRECTIONS:West Lawther Drive between 4109 and 4111
BACKGROUND: This small picnic area is called "Miji Point" and is the third lot on the lakeside if you enter from West Lawther at Mockingbird. Walk out to the small jutting of land and read the plaque in the ground, which dedicates the park to Mary Jane Reoch, nicknamed "Miji", who was 11 times US Cycling Federation National Champion. Tragically, she was struck and killed by a pick-up truck while cycling.
We thought it was appropriate to place this letterbox here, since it honors the spirit of another heroic cyclist - Lance Armstrong.
CLUES: After reading the plaque, walk about 20 paces at 150 degrees SE to the picnic table and enjoy the view as you gaze across the lake. On your left is a huge tree with a hole at about 5 foot in which the box is hidden. Please replace carefully, making sure it is hidden out of sight and covered with bark and leaves. We would very much appreciate updates on this box! Thank you!
