Bridgeport is one of only 10 covered bridges remaining in California. The bridge is in very good condition considering its age. Built in 1862, at 251 feet, it is the longest single span covered bridge in the United States.

To the Letterbox:

Take Hwy 20 East from Marysville and travel about 27 miles. or take Hwy 20 West from Grass Valley for about 5 miles. Turn North on Pleasant Valley Rd. Travel about 8 miles. This road is well-paved, but a little curvy at times. As you reach the Yuba River valley, the bridge will be on your left, just past the South Yuba River State Park. If you go over the highway bridge, you have gone too far.

Enter the parking lot (free)and park near the bridge.

Cross the river through the bridge, and pick yp the trail on the north side. Turn left, towards Englebright Lake. Mind the Lions and snakes!

Continue on the main path until you find a No Dogs Allowed sign on your left. Continue on 12 more single paces. Look up ther hill to your right. What you seek is securely concealed under a rock inside the burnt out stump.

If visiting this box on a hot summer's day, bring your swim suit and a picnic lunch, and really enjoy this little gem of a park buried in the Sierra foothills!
