ALAS THIS BOX IS MIA (MISSING IN ACTION). STAYED TUNED AS I WORK TO RECREATE OUR BATTY FRIEND AND REPLACE FOR A NEW ADVENTURE!!
This 6-letterbox series was created with our precious letterboxing kids in mind (ages 5 to 15, though don’t ignore the kid in you). The clues are meant to be deciphered by the kids themselves so that our accompanying letterboxing parents/guardians can stand back, watch and enjoy the magic!! Paces are based on kid-sized steps and should be easy to navigate. The intention was to hide boxes in a number of parks with playgrounds (where the clues begin) around Hood River, but I came up one playground short. I’ve improvised quite successfully with the #5 box!! All parks are picnic friendly and offer plenty of shade. Grab the kids and have a great letterboxing adventure!!!
Batman’s on the fly and spending some bat-time at Wilson Park. Checking with his butler, Alfred, we’re told that the Caped Crusader and his sidekick Robin had a bat-tip that Mr. Freeze and Two-Face were planning the next big spoof in the tower room on the playground. It’s your job to make sure Batman is there, keeping the city safe!!!
From Cascade/Oak Street in Hood River, head up 13th Street (one-way, southbound) to May Street (you’ll see Providence Hospital on your left). At the very end of May Street you will come to Wilson Park.
CLUES: Start at the playground. The hunt is itchin’ to get started so save the playing time for after the find!! At the bottom of the yellow slide face south towards the swings. If you line up all four swings and look beyond, you’ll see that the swings lineup right between two trees at the south end of the park. Go stand between the two trees. Turn west and take the same number of steps as there are letters in the alphabet. Stop and turn right. Across the park, you’ll see a mailbox. Look to the left for another of the same with the label “210”. Bat-run over to its spot. Face south and take 20 steps to a green “valve control box”. Turn right. Eleven more steps takes you to another box. Look just in front of you in the bushes. There under a big slab of bark, the Caped Crusader hides!!!
