Detweiller Park
Park in the park at Pine & Dogwood shelters. Cross the bridge and UP the trail. Walk over the little footbridges. Reach the top and then climb some more. Pass the charred stump on the left and then UP again. When the trail meets the asphalt you should be under a sign that reads “Ridge Top Trail”. Crack the code at the sign to determine the number of steps you’ll need to take to find what you are looking for. Facing the direction from where you just came, walk (Oak Trail + West Park Entrance) steps to a large tree with a parasitic vine. Walking in the direction parallel to the road and away from the trail, walk (Open Play Field X Pine and Dogwood shelters) to a large tree. This is where you find what you seek. Man the wheel to captain the ship and head for the bonus box, (Moose Shelter X Galena Marina) to the root end of a fallen tree. Replace the boxes and retrace your steps to return to your car.

Growing up in Peoria, I have fond memories of family reunions in Detweiller Park. So naturally, I wanted to place a letterbox here depicting a bit of history. So take the time to read the insert in the letterbox.

In my estimation, Detweiller Park is one of the nicest in the Peoria area. With its manicured lawns, Oak & Hickory trees and the bluffs across the Illinois River making it very picturesque.
