Begin at the information center at the in Newcomb New York

Go right out of parking lot and then right onto route 28N

Go a few miles and then left on route 75 to Tahawaus

Go 0.4 miles to stop sign – go straight, and cross railroad tracks.

Go 0.8 miles to route 25 – there will be a dead end sign – you are heading towards Mt. Marcy and the High Peaks trails

Go 6.2 miles to Upper Works road and go left – towards High Peaks Trails

Go 2.7 miles to the McIntyre Furnace – on the right side of the road

Pull off and park on the right side of the road just past the furnace.

Begin looking at this amazing old funace that is now being repaired to avoid it from further disrepair.

Across the road is a hill with many levels that look like giants "steps". Use caution the hill may be slippery and there is old rusty box wire fence around.

Go to the top "step" and again admire the furnace. Go down one "step" and look along wall about 15 or so feet in from the left (I am writing from memory, please let me know if this is the correct distance!).

Covered under several rocks is what you are looking for.

Please be extra cautious as this area is much busier than it use to be and is much more open as well!!
