On September 4, 1838, Chief Menominee lead his band of 859 Potawatomi out of Marshall County, IN to a reservation out west by government order. Nearly 300 died. South of Plymouth, IN, there is a small memorial to Chief Menominee and his Potawatomi erected in 1909. It is said to be the first memorial to a Native American erected by a state government.

7/31/05: Box checked, alive, and well!

CLUES:
From US 31, south of Plymouth, turn WEST on 13th Road, adjacent to the Marshall County Humane Society. Follow 13th Road West and turn North (right) on Peach Rd. When you see the row of white fence posts on the right, pull over and you will see Menominee. Take a moment to read the information engraved at the base of his statue. Walk to the end of the sidewalk. To your left there are 3 white concrete poles. Walk to the last pole and take a reading of 60 degrees. Take 20 paces (one pace equals two steps) at 60 degrees to a small tree at the edge of the woods. At its feet, covered in leaves and sticks, is where the box lies.
