The city of Jenison is located Southwest Of Grand Rapids just inside Ottawa County.

Hager Park is located on 28th Ave. in Georgetown Township, between Baldwin St. and Bauer Rd. From I-196: from the East, exit at #69B, merge onto Chicago Drive (M-21). From the West, exit at #69. Turn left at the bottom of the ramp. Proceed West on Chicago Drive to Cottonwood Dr. (2nd traffic signal). North (right) on Cottonwood. At the next traffic signal, turn left (West) on Baldwin St. Take Baldwin to 28th Ave (Approx 3 miles) Turn right (North) on 28th Ave. Continue on 28th Ave. until you see the entrance to Hager Park on the right.

NOTE!!! On 06/15/07 the second turtle box was replaced, and the clues revised. Both boxes were verified.

Some turtle facts. :-)
Box Turtles have the ability to close their bottom shell tightly against the underside of their top shell, presenting would-be predators with a "box" of hard shell and plates around the edible body. Evidence of the effectiveness of this protection can be seen on the turtles themselves. Many wild collected specimens bear bite marks and scratches along the shell. After unsuccessful attempts to get to the flesh, many predators will discard the turtle and seek out an easier meal. When the presence of danger is no longer sensed, a box turtle can then open its shell and resume its routine with little damage.

Young box turtles, however, are unable to use this defense. They are instead less domed and more streamlined, adapted for a life of secrecy near water basins. Ages vary, but a box turtle may be 2-6 years old before the hinged plastron is functional. Juveniles are shy and rarely stray into the open.

Although considered primarily "terrestrial", box turtles will occasionally, and sometimes routinely seek a body of water in which to soak for hours to even days. Some will even spend the hot weeks of summer in and around pond shallows. Despite their fondness of water, box turtles are generally poor swimmers, and can drown if water is too deep and there is not provision made to easily exit any water .

Toby and Tony Turtle are brothers. When they are not swimming or soaking up sun, they love to play hide-and-go-seek! Each has a favorite hiding place…but if you follow the clues…you will find them!

SE Corner of Age of Discovery parking lot
Up and over to the trail naturally
An island of trees..which path to take?
Proceed to the farthest choice to the east; then go south
Trip, trap, trip trap over you go…but
note the silver numbers
Up and over the wooden one; go along upstream
20 paces past the tree in the trail, proceed at 150 degrees.
At “Y” bear right
From FLY; paces 30 degrees N of W equal 5 times the single silver number
At the gnarly one, North to the tree trio.
North of the trio, Toby Turtle is waiting at the "y" of old resting one.
Back to the trail and continue as you were
Left is not right
At the zig zag bridge…do the zig zag!
Straight ahead on past the big Oaks!
Next choice, left IS right.
At ”Y” 270 degrees and along the hard route
After it “S”es, and you pass Rog and Sue,
Trail direction equal to the last two digits of the 3 digit number
Do you see the tree with the very strange trunk?
At intersection, 20 degrees E of N
Under nature’s bridge to the green carpet
Go over and check out the Jesus tree!
Then proceed to the tree at 290 degrees.
From there the trail is at 140 degrees.
At the "Y" proceed toward degrees equal to the three digit silver number minus 16.
When you have a choice, go left if the cross on the Jesus tree was under the word Jesus or straight if it was above the word.
Over many sleeping ones.
Past the Beech looms a giant two trunked dead sentinel.
Behind that sentinel, you "walk the (smaller/North) plank" to the split. Tony Turtle will be very happy to have you find him at the little "V" by the tree!
Retrace your steps back to your last direction choice and you will know the correct way back to the parking lot.

(If you want to go from Hager Park to Grand River Park, 28th Ave. doesn't go through. Turn right (North) out of Hager Park to Bauer Rd. Turn right (East) on Bauer Rd. to 24th Ave. Turn left (North) on 24th Ave. to Fillmore. Left (West) on Fillmore to 28th Ave. Right (North) on 28th Ave. Then follow directions for boxes there)
