Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: 1/4 mile
Status of Letterbox: Alive and Well on 3/15/2006
The "Laughing Donkey" letterbox is located in Cagle Recreation Area, a new park west of I-45 and New Waverly, on Lake Conroe. This park offers camping, picnicing, boat ramp, swimming, fishing and hiking.
The facilities all seem new, and is a secluded hidaway on the lake.
Directions: From I-45, take the New Waverly exit (Hwy 1375), and turn left on Hwy 1375. Go about 8 miles to the turn on the left (look for sign, and if you reach the lake overpass you have gone to far). Turn left and pay fee ($5), then go to the end of the road at the boat ramp parking area.
To the Letterbox:
Find the trailhead at the south side of the parking lot. Choose the trail on the right (which is marked), and go south along the lake to the picnic area. From the picnic table closest to the water (farthest south), walk northeast to the brown trail sign (which has "Pack out" on it). From this sign, walk 14 paces at 340 degrees to a large pine tree. The box is on the back side of this tree, on the ground, covered with park and sicks.
