Status - Up for adoption - we are moving to NY - contact us if you are interested in adopting this terrific and popular box.
The Hillbilly Letterbox is planted in the Whitewater Memorial State Park. The land for the park was originally purchased by the surrounding counties of Union, Fayette, and Wayne as a memorial to the men and women who served in World War II.
At the information booth, get a copy of the park map. Follow the Veteran's Vista Trail Southwest, crossing the paved road that leads to the family cabins. Pass the "Octopus" Tree on your right and shortly after that the "Monkey Vines" also on your right. Cross the wooden foot bridge that crosses the creek, which may be dry at times. In a short while, you will pass a tree on the left side of the trail that could be called a "large 3-headed brontosaurus".
Continue on the trail, and when you come upon the next "Veteran's Vista" trail sign, the trail takes a hard turn to the left. YOu will come immediately to a creek - which may be wet or dry depending on the season. Before you come to the top of the small hill, face NE and you will see, the "Hillbilly" stamp in the belly of a tall tree.
After stamping and journaling, be sure to prop it back into its hiding place and cover with branches to keep it from falling into the creek.
This letterbox stamp and its clues were designed by the children of the Connersville Community Education Coalition day camp program that explored Letterboxing, Orienteering, and Geocaching. They will be back often to check on their very first letterbox. Thanks for your words of encouragement to them in our journal.
Happy hunting.
