The fire tower and cabin on the top of Mount Arab in Piercefield, NY were restored for public use in great part by a volunteer organization called the Friends of Mount Arab. They've done a hell of a job so consider showing your support for their efforts by bringing a small donation to the summit or buying a patch or hat.

There is a single hike-to campsite on the mountain that is available on a first-come-first-served basis. We're told that it is hardly ever occupied. However, if it is, please leave the letterbox for another time as the hiding spot is within sight of it. Also, the summit observers are NOT aware of the letterbox at this time so please do not ask them questions regarding it.

CLUES:

Climb the fire tower and enjoy the spectacular 360 degree views of the Adirondacks!

The south end of Tupper Lake is at about X degrees.

Whiteface Mountain is at about Y degrees.

Climb back down and walk at (X - Y) degrees for a couple of minutes until you reach a grassy clearing with a firepit.

Look through the brush at about 12 degrees to a large split erratic that was once used as the backing to another firepit. Walk out into the woods on the faint trail to the left of the erratic.

While standing on the path of stone next to it, reach down and move a single piece of old concrete to find what you seek. Please refit the concrete back into the crevice carefully when finished so the box remains well-hidden from the casual hiker.

NOTE: Please do not enter this box in any type of online database. Direct email and letterboxing stories on the letterbox-usa chat list are welcomed. Endeavor not to give away the location of mystery boxes…when in doubt, enjoy your well-earned find in silence so that others may do the same!
