This box was originally planted by Windrose in 2003. It was adopted, with permission, by koalacat.

Three or so years ago, a muggle moved the box and contacted Windrose about the relocation. The update is still with the clue. However, there is additional help for those that may need it.

Theodore Roethke was our local poet laureate. He was born in 1908, in Saginaw. In 1954 he was awarded the Pulitzer prize for his collection of poems titled "The Waking". He died in 1963 and is buried in a nearby cemetery.

Roethke park has several (short, but nice) hiking trails, and other activities in the summer months (including a miniature railroad). There is no entrance fee for the park. Gate closes at dusk.

Roethke Park
400 Leddy -- Just off of M46 (Gratiot Ave.)
Saginaw, MI 48609 (actually in Thomas Township)

From I75 take the M46 exit (exit 149).
Travel west on M46 (following a couple of curves and street name changes),
through Saginaw and into Shields.
Turn left onto Leddy Rd. Park entrance is on the right.

Clues Difficulty: Medium
Terrain Difficulty: Medium
Begin your journey where children play,
Find the trees that show the way.
"Follow me." says the green,
"I will lead you to paths unseen."

Watch the trees, don't lose your way.
Red goes left, but on green you stay.
Over the tracks, now from green you turn,
To follow yellow, and a secret you'll learn.

Stay on yellow, walk past the blue.
That's how you'll know your way is true.
Once again, across the track,
Now turn around and face back.

Degrees 340, and paces twenty-four,
You're almost there, just two steps more.
And now at last, 290 degrees to face,
And finally eighteen is the count to pace.

There's not much there left to see,
Only a stump, where the tree use to be.
At its base the poet left his quill,
For other poets their log books to fill.

This one might not be in the right place. Someone found it accidentally a while back and moved it. They said they put it in a stump covered in birch and leaves.

For those seeking additional help: On the west side of the tracks where blue and yellow meet, take yellow southwest (or left if facing away from the tracks). The tracks will be on the left (and possibly a picnic table). Pass two yellow tagged trees. Continue on to find two more yellow tagged trees. At that set, align with the left tree and turn right (or west). Walk about 62 steps. Additionally, in the distance, you may see a parking lot. Sounds from the nearby range are quite audible too. The box is in a stump that's about a foot tall. It's covered with birch bark and leaves. Please cover it well when finished.
