This was oringianlly a series of 3 letterboxes, now just one since the presidential election of November 2004, located at Yankee Springs Recreation Area, in Middleville, MI. Yankee Springs is a State Park, so an entrance fee of $5 applies. This beautiful preserve is easy to find, as there are signs from US-131 (Exit 61). A map of the area will be helpful (available from the DNR website). The clues read as they did when the series was first placed, though the unsuccessful candidates' clues have now been removed, as have their boxes.

"Since this is a presidential election year, every United States citizen has the privilege, dare we say obligation, to become educated about the candidates and make a choice on the first Tuesday in November. While that may be too big of a decision to make in a few hours, be sure to read all the clues before you leave home. You may need to brush up on a few facts about our presidential hopefuls! After election day, only the successful candidate’s letterbox will remain in the park. The other two will hit the campaign trail, in preparation for the next election.

Election ‘04 Series #1- The Republican

Some say you have to sell your soul to be a politician and that you will “get cooked” no matter what you do. From the circle drive, find the southeast trail head. It branches immediately, so make your choice. Interesting that this candidate was elected governor of Texas with no previous political experience, though he did manage the Texas Rangers baseball team. As the trail opens up you will see a fence ahead. Is this a measure of Homeland Security? There are paths leading left and right- which would this candidate choose? From this end of the fence, pace the candidate’s age. And doesn’t he have twin daughters? Just off the trail to the right (of course) there are two standing close. Across the trail and several steps in, a downed tree has roots pointing away from the trail. Go there. Ah- at this root end, three convene. Could this be the judicial, congressional and executive branches? The commander-in-chief resides there. Will he win your vote this year?"
