Covering 1600 acres, sprawling Chapultepec Park is the Central Park of Mexico City. Originally developed as a residence for Aztec kings, the park now boasts a zoo, an art museum, children's museum, amusement park, and the famous Castle of Chapultepec. This letterbox takes the searcher on a short (20 minute) walking tour of the "second section" of Chapultepec.
Chapultepec is easily accessible by metro or taxi.
The Meridiem Restaurant marks the start
Of a lovely journey through Chapultepec’s heart
Stroll leisurely clockwise ‘round the lake
Bring food for the fish and friends you will make
Continue on your way—five minutes or ten
‘Til a green fence blocks your path, and then
Go off to the left where the path allows
And turn right at the boulevard of musical fellows
Say hello to Augusto, the nameless woman, and Borras
Then take the path to the left for more of the forest
We’re headed to three towers—perfect for Rapunzel and her hair
Go down a few steps, cross a street, and up stairs
Rapunzel’s towers are protected by a moat and a snake
What a great setting for the fairy tale this place would make
Walk ‘round the towers on the path counterclockwise
An Aztec platform will soon meet your eyes
To get to the platform, take the first path to your right
Have a sense of déjà vu? You just might
Head back to the boulevard for some more thrills
And follow the dancing water as you head uphill
Stop at the pay phone if you need to talk
But then take a soft left off the boulevard and use the sidewalk
Go up the hill, then cross over a walking trail
But take a left at the parking lot without fail
Cross the train tracks for a pretty sight
And walk around this smaller lake on the path to your right
Don’t go too far—cut through the playground
You’re close to the spot where the letterbox is found
Go up the hill and turn left at the street
Then pay homage to the celestial thinker you’ll meet
Pass through the break in the bushes behind Nick
Ten paces to the left is the spot that we picked
To see high in the sky you must look low to the ground
Only there can the roots of astronomy be found.
Notes:
1. Please make sure the box is well camouflaged when you replace it!
2. Although the box is hidden in a relatively quiet spot, the park as a whole can be incredibly busy--especially on weekends. Please make sure that no one sees you remove or replace the box.
NOTE: THIS BOX WAS REPORTED MISSING IN NOVEMBER 2007. WE HOPE TO REPLACE IT NEXT TIME WE ARE IN MEXICO.
