**IN PLACE AS OF 8/21/08 WITH 3 HH's from Michigan**
TERRAIN/LENGTH: Right off the parking lot, with a short climb. Please contact us with updates at songbird_eagleeye@yahoo.com--we'd love to hear from you!
BACKGROUND: For those unfamiliar with hitchhiker hostels, they are letterboxes with a stamp and logbook of their own, yet they also are guaranteed to always contain at least one hitchhiker. Please note, however, that you may only take a hitchhiker if you leave another one in its place. If you take 2, you should leave 2, and so on. Be sure to stamp any hitchhikers you leave into the box logbook and stamp the box stamp into the hitchhiker's logbook. You should also leave your personal stamps in the box logbook, as usual.
DIRECTIONS: Take Exit 21A (West Main Street/Hopkinton) off 495. You'll pass a golden-agers home that reminds you of a popular Henry Fonda/Katharine Hepburn movie of the 1980's. This road becomes 135E, which you'll follow for another 4 miles. Along the way you'll cross Rt 85, pass a solitary soldier on the right, and a huge new religious facility on the right. Once you cross the town line, look for the educational facility on the left. At the next traffic light, take a left into the Ashland T-Stop.
CLUES: Long access road...parking lot...turn left...huge wall of rocks. Find a parking spot (You won't be too long, so don't worry about paying for parking. I haven't had any trouble.) Walk up the roadway up the hill all the way to the orange/red gate. At the gate, face 300 degrees and walk 10 paces up the roadway. Then turn to approximately 240 degrees and walk 30-35 paces up the hill and into the woods. You'll come to a large rock; look in the crack under rocks and leaves. (It's not the easiest place to get to, but I'm hoping that this spot will be safer. We don't want to lose another HH hostel!) Re-hide carefully.
NOTE: It is a 5-10 minute walk to the Keeper of the Flame LB, but you'll have to take the stairs to cross over the railroad tracks, then cross a busy street.
