This letterbox is part of the Letterboxing ‘Round the Lake Series inspired by the Lake Michigan Circle Tour Route. From Highway 32, turn East onto East Fox Lane or Dean Road, and take either of them to the parking lot. Take Dean Road West to return to Highway 32. Either way is less than 2 miles off of Highway 32.

In the corner of a quiet road is a Doctor’s Park. Here, the hustle and bustle of highway and shops are replaced by the sounds of waves, wind, birdsong, and laughter. By day, the park is home to soccer, baseball, hikers, sunbathers, and kite fliers. Children enjoy the playground and families picnic.

As night approaches, the sounds of wind and waves may be joined by the owl’s hoo hoo too-HOO as laughter and birdsong fade. The owl dives from a perch to catch his prey. His first course may be a small mammal on the ground or a bird preparing to roost. Next, the owl may swoop down to the beach for a frog or a fish.

Before the sun begins to rise over the horizon, the owl returns to his secret nest by following the line of pines east toward the lake. From the last, the owl glides into the split tree at 150 degrees.

Please re-hide the box well and cover it. This box will be visible without cover.

If you have time, the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (SANC) is this park’s neighbor. Follow Highway 32 North and stay right when Highway 32 meets Highway 100 (Brown Deer Road). SANC has several miles of trails to enjoy. Its hours and admission fees are available on its web site at: http://www.schlitzauduboncenter.com.

Please contact us if the box needs maintenance, etc.
