Coonskin Park
**** NOTICE ****
This letterbox has been removed - we are trying to find a new location for it, but with all the construction and mudslides, we're still looking. 11/13/06.
Bring Pen and ink pad
Directions: I-64 to exit 99...WV Rt 114 North (Greenbrier Street) 2.5 miles...turn left onto Coonskin Drive...entrance to park 1 mile.
Continue on main park road until you arrive at a T intersection. Turn left and park at Public Stream Access.
Clues: Proceed downstream on the Elk River Trail. You will pass a small sign with green letters and a large sign with yellow letters stating that you are on the correct path. Stay on the trail and cross Coonskin Branch bridge. At the top of a short rise, you will arrive at a set of railroad tracks. Leave the trail and proceed along the tracks downstream for approximately 100 yards. On your left you will see a drainage pipe. Face the pipe and look to your left about 20 degrees. You will see a small tree at the base of the dropoff and (hopefully) an "X" scratched into the rock. Slightly above the tree and below the 'X' you will find the Coonskin box.
Total round trip will be about 1 mile of easy walking on a well defined trail.
