Please be discreet in finding and replacing this box. If you visit on a Saturday during the summer, check out the exhibits - they are always interesting! The Museum is open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day, Saturdays from 10:00-4:00.
(Note: This box was in place October 2004)
Beside the Sound, on a beautiful isle
Many come visit, to stay for a while.
They come to eat lobsters, to search tidal pools
And some, perhaps, will visit this School.
A one room school house from years long past,
Where facts were learned and questions asked.
Today it serves a similar cause
A chance for us to stop, to pause
To learn about another day,
How long ago children studied and played.
As you look at the front doors, think back in time
To boys and girls in two straight lines.
We tend to think things were simpler then
In this old yellow school where learning began.
For many people this was the start ~
A love of learning planted in their hearts.
So sit on the steps, and think about those days
So different, yet alike, in so many ways.
'Neath the bottom step, on the northern side,
The old School House Letterbox does reside
