THE BOX HAS BEEN REPORTED MISSING 4/16/07

I checked the box on 9/27/05. The big block of cement was covered in weeds but the box was intact.

The following was taken from www.lewisandclarktrail.com
On May 21, 1804 a small group of men set out on one of America’s greatest adventures. The expedition led by Meriwther Lewis and William Clark, was instructed by then President Jefferson to Map a new route to the Pacific Ocean, make contact with the Native Americans, obtain specimens for further study, and keep a full record of activities during the Expedition.

On December 8, 1805, the expedition members had arrived on the Pacific Coast and began to build a fort. By Christmas Eve they were under shelter. They named the fort for the friendly local Indian tribe, the Clatsops. The members of the Lewis and Clark expedition remained at Fort Clatsop until March 23, 1806.

Fort Clatsop is now a national park, not letterbox friendly, but fortunately for us Oregon also wanted to honor the site. To find the stamp you first need to find Ft. Clatsop. This should not be a problem, Lewis and Clark found it and they didn’t even have a map (or the internet.) Now locate the Historical Marker (outside the park), after reading it take one step toward the Ocean for every dry day the expedition enjoyed during their stay (better research that before you try and find the box). Look to your left and find a large cracked piece of pavement in the grass and weeds, under some bark in the crack you will find Ft. Clatsop.

I live three hours away from this box, I will not be able to check on it very often. So please e-mail when you find and let me know how its doing.
