Take a trip to WONDERLAND

This box was moved and improved from it's previous location with a new stamp and log. Bring a pen and stamp pad!

To get there...Take Interstate 64 to the Kenova Ceredo Exit 1. From the bottom of the ramp, head North, cross the tracks, pass the ornamental trees, go under the big black train trestle, under the green underpass, maybe stop for a Cream Soda at Griffith and Feil (just left of the red light) mmmmmm, then keep going North as far as you can toward the Ohio River. It will come to a tee at Wetherall Concrete. Turn East one block then North again....cross the tracks and turn East under the giant train bridge. You can park here and walk the steps up the floodwall and proceed East, then walk down the grass by the big black pipes to the pumping station...... or you can drive the dead end gravel road that skirts the floodwall. Proceed to the square concrete pumping station. From the back door of the station, read the plaque on the concrete wall. This floodwall was constructed following a devastating flood in 1937 that destroyed a lot of low lying property in Kenova and a lot of other cities along the Ohio River.

To find the letterbox, standing at the plaque on the pump station wall, step "Down East" then "Up North" to the top. Look to the East and salute. Walk out the catwalk to the red valve (6 foot tall) Look through the grating to the river level.....yikes! From the red valve, take a bearing of 180* and take 7 paces (2 steps to a pace) to the Southeast corner of the catwalk. Just below the very corner lies the "WONDERLAND" letterbox under a clump of grass.
Stamp up with the "new and improved stamp" and leave me a note where you're from. Please rehide it out of view.

Look across the tracks, past the ever present train cars to the old Ceredo-Kenova High School....home of the "Wonders" 11-time state football champions. Stop over and visit the new playground if you have kids, or drop by Monday evenings at 6:30 for Alumni Band rehearsal. Thanks for visiting.....Note, there are 3 other boxes within a 2 mile radius! More to come..... "LETSRACE"
