This box is just off I-90 in the Bureau of Land Management Fishtrap recreation area about 30 miles southwest of Spokane. Take exit #254 off I-90 and go south about 0.8 mile to Lake Valley Loop road. Turn left, cross the railroad tracks & continue straight on into the BLM property past an informational sign. About 1 1/4 miles past the sign, you'll come to a parking area on the left. Park there. Go through the gate and follow the old road for about a 20 minute walk. After you come down a switchback stop when you can first see the falls off to your left. On your right will be a large fallen tree. Look ahead at about 130 degrees and you'll see a cluster of pines including a couple snags. Proceed to that area; about 250 paces. To the east is a large burned tree that has been cut down. To find the box look under the base end of the down tree behind a rock. You can backtrack to your vehicle or continue on the trail which is a loop.

The Prairie Falcon has been declining in numbers due to loss of habitat. This area is one where it can still be seen. The basalt cliffs along the lakes here make suitable nesting areas. And the surrounding prairie provide ground squirrels & other rodents for food. These birds are actually the fastest flyers of the falcons.
