Start at Pioneer Park on South Coddington and West Van Dorn. Pioneer Park Nature Center is on the southwestern edge of Lincoln. The Nature Center features four miles of walking trails through native Nebraska prairie grasses, woodlands and wetlands. A herd of bison, elk, white-tailed deer, red fox, wild turkey and owls are exhibited in their natural Nebraska habitat along the nature center trails. Open various hours during the week and over the year.
This saint was born the second of three sons in Poland. He was a very mischievous child until he received his first Holy Communion at which time he received a vision of the blessed mother which changed his life. He joined the seminary. Not content with his work in Poland he and 4 other brothers left for Japan and India. Poor health forced his return to Poland in 1936. His seminary helped house 3,000 refugees many of whom were Jewish. He was imprisoned in Pawiak prison, Warsaw, Poland in 1941. He was transferred to Auschwitz and branded as prisoner 16670. An escape occurred in July 1941.Camp protocol, designed to make the prisoners guard each other, required that ten men be slaughtered in retribution for each escaped prisoner, a man with young children was chosen to die. This saint volunteered to take his place, and died a martyr. Who is he?
Pass the Bison and continue straight ahead. You will see a duck pond on the right. On the opposite side you will see an aspen tree with 3 trunks. In the hole at it’s base you will find the box.
