Kernville Museum (hours: Thurs-Sun from 10 to 5)
Best time to visit: dusk and evening with a flashlight

Note as of 1/31/11 box is missing, sorry. I hope to replace it.

Bob Powers was the fifth generation descendant of Kern County pioneers. Bob cared enough for the Kern River area to spend over 20 years writing the eight volumes, High Country book series. The pages of his books are rich with history and tales of heroic, loveable and strange people who have touched this rugged, isolated, and beautiful country. This letterbox is dedicated to Bob Powers and the location near the Museum is certainly appropriate. A visit to the Museum will be worth the time spent. There is a room dedicated to movies shot in the area plus lot of photos and artifacts of early days in the valley.

The Letterbox: This is a very short walk from Circle Park on Big Blue Road.
Clues: Near a fire hydrant around the corner from the museum, find the big rock with the names of 2 other Kern River Valley greats: Ardis and Gayle Walker on a plaque.

Now, very discretely as this is a very public place and there are folks all around,
look for the Indian grindstone. The grindstone is partially hidden by an overhanging plant to the upper right of the "Walker" rock Under the upper left corner of that stone is a micro box. Please be quick and careful in your grab for the box.
