Travel Directions:
Exit off the NY State thruway at Kingston. Head west on Rte 28 (take your first right after the toll). Go straight through 2 red light intersections. You may wish to stop at the Catskill Forest info board (for "Keys to the Catskills"). It is about 2 miles from the second light on the right. Continue 1.2 miles from this same board where there is a sign that says "driveways". The road bends here and QUICKLY you will see a brown sign that says "Onteora Lake" on the right again. Just after the gate is a small parking area on the right.
The Onteora Lake trail is relatively new in comparison with the Catskill Park. Half of the trail is not quite completed yet. The Catskill Forest (or park) has been here since 1904! Encompassing greater than six counties and over 6,000 square miles of mountains, forests, rivers, and farmland, the Catskills are often referred to as America's First Wilderness because scholars trace the beginnings of the environmental conservation movement to this beautiful area.
There are 3 parking areas. Please park just inside the gate on the right where there is room for 2 cars. Or park outside the gate taking the short walk into the small lot.
NEW CLUE DIRECTIONS:
Walk through the rotted log on the right side of the small parking lot. Follow this path 62 steps to the first white pine tree on the left. Look behind it under debris and rocks. Please cover well when re-hiding.
There is some poison ivy on the trail. Please take precautions.

Old Clue Directions (in case someone can find the old box)
After looking at the map, head northeast on the 'quaint' walkway; (at the end of which is a picnic spot and a giant weeping willow). At a bend on the path; about 3/4's of the way, is a northwest gravel path on the left, take this path. Go by more weepers on the right side. Soon you will see yellow trailmarkers. Follow the trailmarkers until you arrive at a rocky slope downward. Stop here. Look for a Christian symbol carved in a flat stone in the middle of the trail (this is small but perservere...some brushing of dirt may be required!). From here take 4 steps forward on the path. Look left into the woods. You will see a small curved tree, a flat rock, and a stump next to each other. Beside these is the Catskill Park Centennial Letterbox! Please be discreet and rehide carefully. (Happy Birthday to the CPC!). Thank you!
