Take exit 34C off route 93. Drive away from Echo Lake and Artist Bluff. Winding dead end road will bring you to a parking lot with small memorial to Governor Gallen.

Gallen Pedestrian Bridge is also known as Sunset Bridge. Named for Hugh Gallen governor of NH from 1979 to his death in December 1982.

Walk across bridge stopping to take in scenic views of mountains including Mt Lafayette. The pathway over the bridge is part of the Franconia Notch Recreation Path and is about 9 miles long. Watch out for bikes while on path.

At other end of bridge there is a small trail on the right. Turn right as if to take the path. Notice a light granite rock on the right about 16 inches high and 40 inches long. At time of planting a birch branch was hanging over rock. As you look at rock to its right is a mid-size maple and 3 saplings. To right of rock between saplings is a small shiny black rock. Under rock is a small camo covered round screw top container. No logbook, use black ink.

Bridge and walkway are wheelchair accessible but would probably be difficult to reach camo container from chair.

Hike length: 0.5 miles
