Breckenridge Brewery opened in Breckenridge in 1990 and is the third-oldest craft brewery in Colorado. It has breathtaking views of the mountains from the dining room and patio, an eclectic menu, and a wide selection of beer styles ranging from traditional ales and lagers to sours, saisons, and barrel aged beer. So belly up to the bar before or after finding this box on the McCullough Gulch Trail, a moderate hike featuring lakes, waterfalls, wildflowers, mountain goats, and views of iconic mountains.
Directions:
For the brewery, go to 600 South Main st. For the box, go south on Hwy 9 about 8 miles and turn right on Blue Lakes Rd. Pass the lower Quandary Peak parking lot and turn right on McCullough Gulch Road, a rough but good dirt road. Go 2 miles to gate for McCullough Gulch Trail and park on the side of the road.
Clues:
Walk past gate on McCullough Gulch Road for 0.5 miles to the old McCullough Gulch trailhead and bear left onto trail. After about 1 mile you can go left on side trail to White Falls. Continue on trail up to Upper Blue Reservoir & continue up slight rise to several boulders along the trail with view of reservoir and Quandary Peak on left. Go right 22 steps to smooth gray boulder with white stripes. LB is under back side under rocks. Please be discreet since the area can be crowded.
