The Astros were established as the Houston Colt .45s in 1962, but the current name, reflecting Houston's role as the control center of the U.S. space program, was adopted three years later, when they moved into the Astrodome, the world's first domed sports stadium. The Astros played in the National League West division from 1969 to 1993, and the Central division from 1994 to 2012. In 2000 they moved from the Astrodome to their current home of Minute Maid Park, and in 2013 they moved to the American League West Division. They have played in one World Series in 2005 against the Chicago White Sox, in which they were swept in four games, but this year they are doing well and have a good chance to go all the way. As a long-suffering fan I am proud to dedicate this box to their future success and you can find it at E.R. & Ann Taylor Park, not too far from the Astrodome. UPDATE: On 11/1/17 the Astros did indeed go all the way, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 7 of the World Series!
Directions:
From S. Loop 610 in Houston take Hwy 288 south for about 1.5 miles. Exit Reed Road, turn right (west) and go about 1 mile to E.R. & Ann Taylor Park on the left just before Almeda Rd. Drive through the gate on the gravel road and park by the pavilion.
Clues:
Walk right on trail in front of pavilion, going past bird blind on left & elevated bird blind on right, to boardwalk. Continue as trail bends right past another bird blind on left and boardwalk becomes cement trail. Continue past jct to another elevated bird blind on right, as trail bends left past another bird blind on right, to metal tower on left. Continue about 50 steps then go left off trail 17 steps to big tree with Y. LB is at back base under sticks & leaves.
