There are many types of technology, but the people you are searching for today are titans in a field we all rely on in the 21st century. To discover your starting point, use the standard code for information interchange to decode the following:

075 101 116 116 108 101 032 077 111 114 097 105 110 101 032 083 116 097 116 101 032 070 111 114 101 115 116 032 077 117 107 119 111 110 097 103 111 032 082 105 118 101 114 032 085 110 105 116 044 032 112 097 114 107 105 110 103 032 108 111 116 032 111 110 032 072 119 121 032 069

The logbooks will contain the name and image of various “Titans of Technology” who have been instrumental in developing things most of us now use on a daily basis. The clues will give you information allowing you to guess the name of each titan. How many will you figure out before you find the box?

Mystery Titan 1
In 1975, this titan dropped out of Harvard to start a software company with a friend. In 1980 he made a deal that would change computing: he provided IBM with an operating system for their new PC. In 1985 his company released a very popular graphical version of the operating system. His company also developed productivity software applications that are still widely used. The company now offers a wide range of products and services and this titan is the richest man in the world.

Pass through the gate and head east on a wide path. You’ll pass a road on the left but stay straight. Stay straight at another intersection and then watch for a large fallen log on the left. The 1st titan is under a “Y”. Be sure to close all applications (baggies & box) and rehide well before you Shut Down.

Mystery Titan 2
After completing high school, this titan worked as a video game designer and sought spiritual enlightenment in India. Then at the age of 21 he started a company (in his family’s garage) with a friend. They brought a revolutionary change to the computer world by inventing improved technology and introducing machines that were much smaller in size, cheaper and intuitive to consumers. Later the company introduced other revolutionary products including music, phone and tablet devices. The company he founded is currently the largest technology company in the world in terms of revenue.

Continue on and stay straight through a 4-way. Stay right at a “T”. Ignore roads on left. You’ll see a wire fence on the left, trail curves right. Admire a pine alley. Watch for a path on the right to a pond. From the path turnoff, take 35 steps on the main trail to logs on the left. The 2nd titan is nestled inside/under, between pines. Please rehide him well so only others on the same Safari will find him.

Mystery Titan 3
This titan had an early interest in computers (and also fencing & literature), creating computer games and music software while still in high school. In 2004 he co-founded a popular social-networking website out of his college dorm room. He left Harvard after his sophomore year to concentrate on the site, the user base of which has now grown to nearly 2 billion people! He is 33 years old in 2017 and the 5th richest person in the world.

Continue on the main trail to a “T” and then head right. The trail turns to gravel and gently inclines. Watch for fallen oak limbs on the right. Near the top of the incline, “X” marks the spot for the 3rd titan. He’d “Like” it if you would rehide him carefully to block anyone who isn’t his friend.

Mystery Titan 4
This titan was born in Australia and began hacking computers at the age of 16. In 2006, he founded a non-profit website intended to collect and share confidential information on an international scale. He believes that total transparency is for the good of all people. His whistle-blowing website has resulted in him being called “the Robin Hood of hacking."

Continue to a 4-way intersection. Turn left to return to your vehicle or stay straight to hunt for more technology titans. As the path curves right, watch for a “secret” uphill path on the left. Take this path up to a broken base on the right and “V” log on the left. The 4th titan is in the fork of the “V”. Please don’t leak the location of this controversial figure, but instead keep him secure in his hiding spot.

Mystery Titan 5
This titan was one of the two men that invented a very popular search engine. In 1995, the pair met at Stanford University as graduate students in computer science. Operating out of their dorm rooms, the pair built a server network using cheap, used, and borrowed PCs. They began collaborating on writing a program for a search engine. Their goal was "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful".

Go back down to the main path and continue curving around a pond. Ignore a path on the right and then pass an abode on the right. Continue to an asphalt “T”. Head left, then left again. (Remember this triangular intersection by “Bookmarking” it as a “Favorite”.) Quite soon you will pass a lake access on the right. Continue straight until the path reaches the lake, then curve to the right along the shore to a boulder hillside on the right. Look for the 2nd stump on the right amidst the rocks (it is across from a cedar). The 5th titan is nestled under smaller rocks at the top right corner of the largest rock, to the left and below the stump. After meeting him, “Don’t be evil”, but instead return him safely to his office.

Mystery Titan 6
This titan is the other half of the pair that invented a popular search engine. The search engine was named after the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name represents the immense amount of information that a search engine has to sift through. In September of 1998 a beta version of the search engine was answering 10,000 search queries every day. Today it processes an average of 3.5 billion searches per day and is the most visited website in the world!

Retrace your steps to the spot you bookmarked as a favorite. Head left (northwest) at the intersection and continue to follow the old road as it curves north. Watch for a long gate on the left. Pass through the gate and then continue for 72 more steps to a log pile on the right. The 6th titan is behind the stump near the path. He will be “feeling lucky” if you rehide him carefully.

Mystery Titan 7
This titan also had an early love of computers, but after graduating from Princeton he worked on Wall Street in the finance industry for eight years. In 1994 he quit his lucrative job to venture into the new world of e-commerce. He opened a virtual bookstore that became one of the internet's biggest success stories. Over the years, the company diversified into a site that sells a wide variety of products and services. It is now the largest Internet-based retailer in the world by total sales and this titan is the 3rd richest person in the world.

Continue to follow the path as it winds uphill and down. At the top of the hill with a row of pines on the right, watch for a deer path on the left near a leaning tree. Follow the deer path east until you reach a pine fallen across the path. The 7th titan is at the base of the fallen pine. On his “wish list” is a desire that you don’t put him in your cart, but instead make an easy return to deliver him back to his remote store here in the woods.

Mystery Titan 8
This titan was born in Taiwan and moved to the US as a child. He graduated from Stanford University. During his time there he and a friend created a website called "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web". The site was later renamed and became immensely popular. The web portal was one of the pioneers in the early Internet era in the 1990s and provided a wide variety of products and services, including search engines and email. Once the most popular website in the U.S., the site slowly declined in the late 2000s.

Backtrack on the deer path back to the main path. Continue on the main path and pass under power. At the “T” take a right for 145 steps. Look for a deer path on the left. Take the deer path in for 17 steps and look to your right for a “V” tree. The 8th titan is in the crotch of this tree. Re-file this guy carefully or you may be attacked by malware.

We don’t live nearby so we won’t be able to check the boxes very often. We’d therefore appreciate an email to let us know how these “Titans of Technology” are doing. Thank you!
