SORRY!! BOX MIGHT BE MISSING. MIGHT BE A WHILE BEFORE I CAN VERIFY, BUT IN THE MEANT TIME, IF YOU DON'T FIND THE BOX WHERE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, IT'S PROBABLY GONE. PLEASE DON'T DIG FOR IT!!!

Valentine's Day is not such a good day for whale watching, but in a month or two, you may have the good luck of spotting a whale while hiking the trail to the "VW". If you don't, find this box and you will be rewarded.
Start by driving to the Cape Blanco State Park which is north of Port Orford, maybe 5-10 miles. Drive out toward the lighthouse. From where the road turns from two lanes to one, you will find the Coast Trail/South Cape Trail. Follow this trail along the windy cape. Do not take any side trails. You go into some trees then it opens out to an area with benches and picnic tables for a nice rest and some ocean/whale watching. Then cross the paved road and continue on the Coast Trail. Be sure to stay on the main trail, which is to the right at a three way intersection. It will take you to a dirt road. Turn right on the dirt road and walk about 60 steps. Look on the left and you will see an old "steam donkey" platform. In it's day it helped with the demise of many of trees, but now they are having their revenge and a few are taking root in it! Go around to the north end of the donkey. You will see a cross beam with a "double" tree growing out of it. Look down and to the left. Under that cross beam you will find a board about 1&1/2 foot long. My third box is hiding behind it.
Once you have had your fun with the stamp, consider continuing on the trail for a lovely overlook of the beach. There is also a trail down to the beach, or you could go back to the paved road and take a left to find the beach. Walking south to the mouth of the Elk river is a good place to hunt for agates. If you like Huckleberries, you may want to wait to try this box til the fall. You might even see some whales then, as some will spend all summer in the area.
