Difficulty: Very Difficult
Distance to Letterbox: 8 to 11 miles, depends on if you go on or which trail you take.

Katahdin. I made it, but have to say this hike was much harder that I thought it would be. Most of our hiking has been in the west, so when I saw that trial was 11 miles round trip, understanding that it was rated very difficult, and knowing the elevation gain, I still did not account for the actual rock scrambling you must do. Also the trail going straight up the mountain via wash basins that had slippery roots and rocks. Once over the rock climb, then get hit with 50 MPH winds and freezing. Anyway, we made it, glad I did it, will never do it again. Box is not at the top, but at lower trail junction, but will still take quite an effort to get.

Directions:
Enter BSP. Pick your trail (either Abol or Katahdin stream and park there. You may need to make pre-reservations for a parking spot.

To the Letterbox:
Hike to junction with the Cathedral Trail. Go behind the Saddle sign, to the back of the huge rock. Box at back edge under a smaller rock. Not the greatest place, but I was tired, cold and spouse was not smiling any more.

Hike length: 8+ miles
