Dean Bernal, an avid ocean swimmer, settled in The Turks & Caicos Islands in 1986 and came across three young Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins on his first ocean swim there. One of these dolphins, who Dean called JoJo, started to follow him on his daily swims and soon became Dean’s best friend. In 1989 JoJo was declared a National Treasure of the Turks & Caicos Islands and Dean’s relationship with JoJo allowed him to become actively involved in securing the long-term care and protection of other endangered lone sociable dolphins around the world. JoJo can sometimes be seen in the Grace Bay area near Bight Reef in Princess Alexandra National Park, where this box can be found.
