Who doesn't love a good Dr. Seuss book? These are some of my favorites! The Cat in the Hat, There’s a Wocket in My Pocket!, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, The Lorax, Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Horton Hatches the Egg, Hop on Pop, If I ran the Zoo, Fox in Socks, Horton Hears a Who!, Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? What are your faves?

Now join me on an adventure to find some of my favorite characters!

Oh Yertle, the turtle, fancied himself a great king
Turns out he couldn’t rule every little thing
On the backs of the turtles, he tried to rise to power
Until Mack complained and shook him from his tall tower
He had a big fall off his high throne
Now it was time to find a new little home.

Yertle walked awhile down the trail
When he had to decide, he started to wail
Oh no, oh no!
Which way do I go!?
Off to the left he saw a neat sign
And thought, oh, that way will be just fine!

He walked a while, passing lake plain forest
Looking for a home, but no time for a rest!
Soon enough he came to an intersection
Headed straightish and to the left, upon reflection
Large black stairs, he saw straight ahead
Then a long, long tree that was surely quite dead

He loved this tree
What a sight to see!
Here he will live and watch people pass by
Right in the middle, where it splits in a Y
Tucked down in there deep, and covered quite well
Here’s his new home, he will sit for a spell.
.
Have you ever heard of the pale green pants?
Scarier than spiders, snakes or ants!
Those scary pants with no one inside them?
I trembled with fear and caused mayhem
By chance we finally did meet
And I found he was really quite sweet
Now we are friends, and he’s quite a dear
Now I know, there’s no reason to fear!

Continue down the path, passing the bench.
Turn to the left, to the right. It’s a cinch
Time for you to pay a visit and say hello.
This is surely the only way to go

Passing the grow zone and keeping to the left.
Bypass the black barrier, don’t be bereft!
Curve to the right, and traipse down the gravel
Lake ahead, oh what a marvel!

Head through the black railed pathway.
Nice view to the left, but not the right way
Continue along until you must decide where to go
75 degrees shows where the pants now call home

Across the path, a long fallen tree,
Oh what a wonderful sight to see!
Along the back, near the root end
Look to find our pale green friend
.
Do you like hiking, skiing or going to beaches?
How about visits with some lovely Sneetches?
Star-Bellied Sneetches had bellies with stars.
Plain-Bellied Sneetches had none upon thars.
They used to fight and make fun of each other
Until they realized they’re just like one another
Now they are all friends, some starred and some plain
Whatever they have, they do not complain

It’s time for a visit, time you set forth
Get out of here and head to the north
Curve to the right and left on the gravel
Head past the bench and downstairs you will travel

Turn right and pass the wooden wall
Don’t cross that bridge, oh no not at all
Head off to the left, find a bench and a sign
Trail curves right, left and right one more time

Sharp left, past the large tree in your way
Twenty-two steps is about right I’d say
On your left, a tall one standing, a long one laying
Where they meet, you’ll find Sneetches playing

Be sure the boxes are well concealed
So our Seussian characters are not revealed
Please hide them with leave, sticks and bark
Don’t worry, they’re not afraid of the dark!

Hike length: 1 mile
