The bog was once ruled by a monsterous alligator. Dumped in the swamp by a youngster from a neighboring town. The gator wrecked havoc on the bog, eating everything in sight and scaring every hiker from Stepping foot inside. That is, until the bog monster came to town and took up his home on the neighboring meadow. He hunted the gator and made gator stew of him. Well everything except his bumpy tail. It was too bumpy and lumpy for his stew. Let's find it!
Start at the bog nature preserve just west of Saukville on hwy 33.
Park in the lot and start out at the trail head. Pass friends of the bog sign. Continue walking on this trail. Look for the mini kettle moraine sign and map to your right. Walk across the boardwalk. You can read about poison sumac as you cross. Be careful! Keep following the path. Did you meet the birches? At the trail fork stay right following the meadow trail. You will pass a large Boulder on your left, followed by a long boardwalk. Your getting close to the alligators tail. At the end of the boardwalk head left. Walk until you see another trail fork. Go left. Walk 10 paces. See the fallen Rooty tree to your left? Look inside. You've found the alligators tail. Stamp up and rehide well. If you have time rumor has it the bog monster resides in this park as well.
