Eugene Bertram "Gene" Krupa was an American jazz and big band drummer, band leader, actor, and composer. Known for his highly energetic, flamboyant style and showmanship, he is considered one of the most influential drummers in jazz history and one of the first major soloists on the instrument. He was born in Chicago in 1909 and began playing drums professionally in the mid-1920s with bands in Wisconsin. In December 1934 he joined Benny Goodman's band, where his featured drum work made him a national celebrity. However, artistic and personal disputes with Goodman prompted Krupa to leave the group and form his own orchestra. As the 1940s ended, large orchestras fell by the wayside so Krupa went to Hollywood to appear in such films as "The Glenn Miller Story" and "The Benny Goodman Story". In 1959, the movie biography "The Gene Krupa Story" was released starring Sal Mineo. He retired in the late 1960s and opened a music school where one of his pupils was Kiss drummer Peter Criss. Krupa occasionally played in public in the early 1970s until shortly before his death in 1973, and in 1978 Krupa became the first drummer inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, where this box can be found.

Directions:
From I94 go southeast on Lincoln Ave/Michigan City Rd for about 2 miles and turn right into Holy Cross Cemetery. Take first left and then second right. Go to road between Immaculata section and St. Florian, turn left and park by Rydzewski stone on right flanked by bushes. Gene is buried in Immaculata section but I couldn't find his grave.

Clues:
Walk to back side and look at left base about 6" in under bush for LB.
