This box was placed as a jab at the mess the emerald ash borer Beatle has made of this historical area. Lizard mound park located on county A just outside of west bend is home to a beautiful collection of mounds left by the mound building native Americans. As a child I would visit with my parents and remember a glass case with the remains of a Native American baby and relics. It ended up being removed after vandals got to it. The park has been transformed from a thick forest to a lot of open areas thanks to the emerald ash borer Beatle. After finding this box make sure to walk the trails to see the many mounds and the interpretive center to learn more.
Start at lizard mound county park. Park in the lot facing the trails. Head left to the farthest paved trail. Where the pavement ends keep walking. They've been making this place an eye sore! Walk 44 paces. Look directly to your right. At the base of this tree is a large hole with a large piece of wood guarding it. Look in this hole. Stamp up! Please replace wood and be stealthy as its so close to the trail.
Hike length: 0.5 miles
