This letterbox is part of the GO and Be Active! program in York County, PA. It will be available from June 1, 2016 – August 14, 2016. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.

The GO and Be Active! program requires you to search for up to 30 “activities” – wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression (with a colored pencil or crayon) from the engraved plate onto your GO and Be Active! rubbing sheet, available at any York County Library.

This letterbox is located at Apollo County Park and should be accessed from the parking lot off Shenks Ferry Road. GO York! level of difficulty = Hard.

• From the parking area, locate and walk to the yellow gate.
• Continue past the yellow gate and onto trail 2. There will be pine trees on both sides of the trail.
• Follow trail 2 until you come to a field edge at the top of the hill.
• At the top of the hill continue walking straight on trail 2 along the edge of the field. The field will be on your left and trees on your right.
• At the bottom of the hill where trail 2 enters the woods, take the first trail to the left. This trail will have orange blazes on the trees.
• Follow the trail with the orange blazes down the steep hill and along a small creek.
• At the very bottom of the hill where the three ravines come together, make a left and cross the small creek.
• Remain on the trail as you cross another small creek and eventually up a hill.
• Three quarters of the way up the hill, look on the ground to your right for a tree that has been cut into two separate logs. In between these two logs is a narrow trail. Follow this trail and you should see blue blazes on the trees.
• After following the trail with blue blazes for about 200 yards, the trail comes out under power lines. Make a right and follow the trail under the power lines.
• Where the trail overlooks the Susquehanna River is where you will find the rubbing post. Take a moment to enjoy the view!
• To return to your vehicle, go back the way you came.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
