This letterbox is part of the GO and Be Active! program in York County, PA. It will be available from June 1, 2016 – August 14, 2016. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
The GO and Be Active! program requires you to search for up to 30 “activities” – wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression (with a colored pencil or crayon) from the engraved plate onto your GO and Be Active! rubbing sheet, available at any York County Library.
This letterbox is located at Horn Farm Center (Hellam Township) and should be accessed from the parking lot off Horn Road. GO York! level of difficulty = Easy.
• Start in the gravel parking lot near the greenhouses.
• Walk uphill on the gravel road past the red outbuildings and Farm Stand sign.
• Before you reach the green receptacles, bear right onto the grass. You should see a path through the grass.
• Continue a short bit on this path until you reach the high point overlooking a swale (ditch).
• Turn left and continue on the path above the swale. Some incubator farm gardens will be on your left.
• Continue through the break in the treeline. The trail will dip here and may be muddy due to the runoff stream. Remain on high ground.
• After you clear the treeline, you may notice white beehive boxes on the hill on your right.
• Continue on the tractor path toward the cement block structure.
• When you reach this building, turn right and walk slightly uphill toward the metal property stake. The post will be near here.
• To return to your vehicle, turn around and come back the way you came.
Hike length: 0.5 miles
