Zebra found herself looking for a new place to live. She thought about some of the parks in Tucson but there were so many prickly plants she couldn't see herself living there. She longed for open, lush grassland, a variety of birds, and some water…. Where could she go?
To the acavirA ageneiC park:
From Tucson take Highway 286 south from Three Points to milepost 12. Turn left and drive east 12 miles to Arivaca. From Interstate 19, take the Amado/Arivaca exit west, turn right at the T, then left at the Cow Palace onto Arivaca Road. Then drive 23 miles to Arivaca. Arivaca Cienega Trail is ¼ mile east of Arivaca.
To the box:
Park anywhere in the parking lot. Make you way through the zig-zag gate entrance and start out to the right (left goes to the potties) on the sidewalk. Follow that to the end where the trail turn to gravel/dirt. There is a trail sign that simply says "trail" has an arrow pointing left. Follow the arrow. Walk past a viewing area, past a couple of could-be zebra hitching posts, over a bridge. When you get to the Birds of Prey sign, stop. Turn left (north). Walk 20 steps to the back of a mesquite to find Zebra hiding under some rocks.
Hike length: 1 mile
