Exit US 89 at the Emigrant Rest Area, which is actually a few miles South of Emigrant. It's on the river side of the road.
There are two pairs of benches facing the river. Find the pair which is set back from the river (the other pair is right on the river). Sit in the outside bench and you'll see a huge dead tree trunk stump directly ahead. The trunk is wrapped with wire to discourage beavers. Look for a hollow which faces upstream--the box is in the hollow under bark, twigs, and leaves. Small children should be attended so they don't fall in the river.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
