Girl Scout Troop 471’s
Safari Animal Series LetterBox

This Letterbox is a series of 8 animal stamps and are located along the Safari Park Trail in the Rancho Sahuarita Community off of Rancho Sahuarita Blvd in Sahuarita, AZ. The trail itself has wonderful bronze statues of different animals so take your time and enjoy the parks lush green spaces and have fun finding all 8 boxes.

This was many of the girls first attempt at hand craving stamps so some of them are a little crude….but they had fun creating and hiding them and that is after all what it is all about!

Getting to the Box….

Exit I19 on Sahuarita Rd. turn left into the Rancho Sahuarita Community via Rancho Sahuarita Blvd.
On the left after Fry’s you will see Parque del Rio turn into the parking lot and park….follow the trail around the playground and you will see an archway that says “Safari Trail” this is where the instructions begin.

Letterbox 1

This is the first box in the series and holds the TROOP 471 stamp! The 7 is craved backwards but I think this adds to it’s charm. 
We are going off road in the beginning by heading into the desert area just behind Ramada 15, you will see a mesquite tree with 3 live trunks and 2 cut trunks….you will find a camo bag under the stump on the back side.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 2

In this letterbox you will find the AZ state bird….and it is really close!
Continue down the dry creek bed to the next tree on the right and look in between the trunks of the tree you will find another camo bag.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 3

This letterbox holds another bird but this one is soaring through the sky on large wings!
Continue down the dry creek bed until you see a bronze statue of an Orangutan hanging on a tree. It will be on your right closer to the pathway. Under the back of the statue you will see a box.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 4

This letterbox takes you back into the desert area to find an animal native to Australia!!
Look for a grouping of 3 large saguaro cactus with a Mesquite tree in the middle….There will be a camo bag under the back side of the tree covered with debris.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 5

For this letterbox we are going to head back across the dry creek bed and up on the actual paved path. The mystical creature within this box in protected by a bronze statue of a Mountain Lion carrying her cub in her mouth! You will see a large rock to the right of the statue…behind the rock in between the rock and the spikey bush you will find the box with a magical creature.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 6

This letterbox will make your heart flutter! Continue down the paved path until you see a white tail deer bronze statue with her little fawn. Directly behind the baby deer you will see a tree. The letterbox is hidden at the base of the tree.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 7

This letterbox will leave you feeling like you took a trip to wonderland! Follow the paved path until you see a hippo on your right….look for a turtle that could be in trouble….behind this turtle between the hippos hind legs is were you will find a camo bag covered in debris.
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot and cover it again so you can’t see it……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Letterbox 8

This is the last a final letterbox in this series and holds a sweet little creature that works hard everyday. Continue down the path look for a bronze owl……just pass the owl is a large Palo Verde tree if you come to the Rams you went to far! At the base of the tree is rock….under the rock is where you will find this last letterbox containing a very busy helper. Please use caution when turning over rocks, it is best to use a stick because you never know what you might run across in the desert!!
Please remember to re-seal the bags and re-hide in the same spot and cover it again so you can’t see it……this is a high traffic area so try to be discrete.

Thank you for going on an adventure with us…I hope you had as much fun finding them as we did creating them. 
