Schmitz Preserve Park Letterbox
5551 SW Admiral Way, West Seattle

Park at the entrance at the corner of SW Stevens Street and SW Admiral Way SE. There is usually parking along Stevens St.
Once you are parked, walk to the park’s entrance. There will be a park sign along with a kiosk to your right detailing some of the local plant life. Walk through the gate and just past the entrance on your right, notice the interesting tree formation. Remember to stay on the trail and continue on down the paved trail for a few minutes. You will come upon a wooden fence to the right, but don’t stop yet!
Continue down the paved path until you reach a fork. Take the dirt path to the left. You will be heading SE. Stay on the main path heading uphill. After a few minutes, you will pass a large mossy tree to your left and two smaller mossy trees to the right. One of these is actually three trees joined together. Continue on the main path to the SE. Watch out for the alligator on the right!
About thirty paces from the alligator, you will arrive at a T intersection. Take a left, heading east. Hear the running water? See the wooden fence to the right? When the fence ends, walk about 35 paces. There will be a sharp uphill trail just NE and to the left. Take this path and climb up to the log “step.” From here, walk 9 paces. Look for a stump to the right, about 8 feet tall. At the base, you will find the letterbox. There will be an “eye” on you so watch out!
After finding, please return the box to its original spot and camouflage with leaves. Return back down the hill to the main path. Turn right to return from where you came. Take the next right and say good-bye to Mr. Alligator. Continue on, keeping right until you find yourself back where you began!

Hike length: 1 mile
