As of now (September, 2011) Bucky's Feathered Friend, along with his home(!) has gone missing! We hope to replace hthis stamp one day soon!!

We hope you've visited Bucky Beaver! He's a friendly sort, but some of his pals are more elusive. To reach Bucky's Feathered Friend, from Highway 50 in Rancho Cordova take Sunrise Blvd. north to Coloma Road and turn west. Proceed a short distance down Coloma until you reach Elmanto Drive, then head for the river (north). Turn off Elmanto east onto Ambassador Drive and stay on it until it dead ends in a small (free) parking lot. At the northeast end of the parking lot you'll find a paved path that will lead you into the woods. Stay on this path as it skirts the southeast side of the little park. As you travel, you'll pass first through a stand of oaks (wild blackberries grow here, so if you're here at the right time of year you can have a snack - but watch out for poison oak off the trail!)then a stand of Trees of Heaven. Sometimes when we're on this pleasant walk, especially in the misty moisty winter, we think maybe we ARE in heaven. When you reach the bike trail, turn northwest on it and proceed for about 50 paces. Cross the bike trail and head north down an old service road. Near the end of this road/trail, you'll pass a fire hydrant. About 16 paces beyond the fire hydrant you'll come to a horse trail, which you should cross to the small path on the other side. Proceed along this path until you reach the river, then head upriver, keeping in mind that it's best to take the high road, in life as well as on this particular quest. Watch your step! If you manage to not tumble down the river bank you will, very shortly, reach three big old cottonwood trees. Evidence of Bucky's activities abound. At the base of the first 2 trees, hiding behind 2 large river rocks, find Bucky's Feathered Friend.

**update** As of March 8, 2010, Bucky's Feathered Friend is alive and well, though some of the conditions have changed. The Trees of Heaven are considered invasive (not native to the area), so have been removed. The evidence of Bucky's activities are not so evident, parts of the trail have fallen away so heads up, and the box rests behind one large rock and some bark. But, you're smart, you'll find it!
