My great-grandparents on my dad’s father’s side were both born in Poland in 1871. They married in 1893 and a few years later they immigrated to the United States. They both lived to be 96 years old and were married for over 75 years. They never learned to speak English but felt at home within the large Polish community in the Milwaukee area. As a kid, I was taught how to greet them in Polish the few times that we saw them. Martini Man & I were lucky enough to vacation in Poland in 2002 and enjoyed our time in Warsaw, Krakow, the Masurian Lakes area (very similar to northern Wisconsin ) and the Tatra mountains. To represent my Polish heritage, I carved the White Eagle - the national coat of arms of Poland.

To obtain this national symbol, find a memorial stone at the north corner of the niruaM Center. Head downhill to a meeting place and then turn right to travel on the Lake trail. Continue on over a boardwalk and then stay on a steady course to the E trail. When you reach a “T” at the top, head left and note the interesting “needle eye” tree on the right. Continue along until you reach the next intersection. Take a right here to follow a northern route. Cross a bridge and at the next trail sign head left on the trail at 220°. Watch for a gnarly stump on the right with one small trunk still upright. Take 17 steps in on a bearing of 320° to find the eagle’s nest under a rotting log that is wedged between saplings.

After rehiding carefully to keep him safe, continue on the trail and turn left when you get to the gravel road. Pass the Muskrat Pond on the right and then watch for a small bridge on the right. Turn right to cross the bridge and then continue back to the lodge.

Please let us know how the eagle was faring by sending us an email message. Dziękuję!
