I am Ash. Come find me!

My home is in Gogebic State Park in Gogebic County, Michigan. I am here to remind all who visit me of the importance of protecting our Ash trees distributed throughout the area. Please do not move firewood.

You will find me along the foot trail which has a starting point at the southern end of the park near the boat launch. Take the trail west and follow the signs, carefully crossing highway M64 and continuing westward, passing the sign marked “Foot Trail”. Follow the trail for about 0.2 miles and you will come to an interpretive sign about the Black Ash. This is one of several interpretive signs along the trail.
While facing the sign, take a bearing of 88 degrees and walk approximately 25 paces. From that point, take another bearing of 344 degrees and walk approximately 27 paces. You will find me sheltered at the feet of a once-proud sentinel of my forest home.

Take a moment to thank the dedicated Department of Natural Resources personnel who provide all of us with the opportunity to touch Nature.
