June 2008 - I've received emails that this box may be missing.

Any and all emails appreciated on the condition of this box. I live in Michigan and only make it to NC a couple of times a year. Thanks.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Saluda is located halfway between Tryon and Hendersonville NC. Only 45 minutes from Asheville and the Biltmore House, 30 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and close to many other mountain activities.

Saluda is a historic Victorian summer retreat perched at the edge of Polk County in the Blue Ridge Mountains. At the turn of the century, Saluda, with its charming Victorian summer homes and inns, was a bustling mountain summer resort served by the “CAROLINA SPECIAL” passenger steam engine train which brought visitors escaping low country heat.

Today, the town proudly retains a Main Street Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places lined with wonderful old brick buildings. Admire the old-timey M.A. Pace general store close by; it’s the kind of place that you just love to roam around in! Other town shops include art/craft galleries, a juice/coffee shop, garden shops, unique gift shops...you can have a therapeutic massage, find herbal treatments, buy rare plants and much more! Past the bridge overpass where you can watch trains, try award-winning barbecue.

You won’t want to miss stopping by my favorite store in Saluda, Random Arts! This unique workshop/studio & creative space was opened in 1996 as a rubber stamp store and has evolved into a special place for artists of all kinds to enjoy workshops for creating artists books, traditional books, altered books, jewelry, decorative gourds, simple cards, exquisite art and more. Check out the materials to make some extra special letterbox journals and yes, they also carry some exciting stamp carving materials and tools.

LET’S MAKE TRACKS

Make your way to the only park in town. You will want to go past the pavillion and up into the Gazebo. As you stand at the entrance of the Gazebo you will face North West @ 300 degree. Look to the left and take flight to the top landing. With the blacktop in front of you, look to the correct side; under the landing. Please rehide well and be sure to cover the Carolina Special with the rock.
