For this letterbox you will do a strenuous but great hike up the summit of Bear Peak (8,461feet), one of Boulder’s most visible landmarks. From the top, make sure to bring your camera as you will take in 360 degree views of the eastern plains, the city of Boulder, Indian Peaks Wilderness and Rocky Mountain National Park. You might even see a bear, in addition to the one peeking at you from this letterbox.

Directions:
Go south on CO 93 to Table Mesa Dr, turn right and go west to parking lot for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

Clues:
Walk to west side of building and go on Walter Orr Roberts trail to sign and go left and down toward Mesa Trail. Start going up and go left past green water tank, left at Y jct, then left at Mesa Trail. At T jct go right and up, cross creek, and at Bear Canyon jct go left, staying on Mesa Trail. At next jct go right and up toward Bear Peak and at Shanahan Trail jct go right and up, staying on Fern Canyon Trail all the way to the top, doing some scrambling at the end. Go around back (west) side of rocks and go south 7 steps to crevice between boulders, where LB is hidden under rocks.
