The Leadville Trail 100 Run, otherwise known as the Race Across The Sky, is a 100 mile ultramarathon held annually on trails and dirt roads near Leadville through the heart of the Rocky Mountains. First run in 1983, runners in the race climb and descend 15,600 feet, with elevations ranging between 9,200–12,620 feet. In most years, fewer than half the starters complete the race within the 30-hour time limit while those finishing under 24 hours receive the coveted silver belt buckle. This letterbox is on the Turquoise Lake Trail, which is part of the run, so you can get a small taste of what it would be like.

Directions:
From Leadville go west on Turquoise Lake Rd, which becomes CR 4, then right on CR 9c for about 2 miles to entrance for Molly Brown Campground on left. Turn left and go about 0.3 miles to Turquoise Lake Nature Trail parking area on left.

Clues:
Walk west on old road until it crosses a raised levee, then continue straight on trail to sign at jct near lake. Go left 50 steps to large tree before large boulder and go left uphill 32 steps to dead tree laying across slope. Continue 32 more steps to another dead tree laying across slope with live pine tree next to it with large rock at base. LB is under the rock.
