Rogers Pass, Continental Divide Montana
Rogers Pass was named after surveyor, Major A.B. Rogers, who was looking for a pass for the Great Northern Railroad.
Rogers Pass is the location of the coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States outside of Alaska. On January 20, 1954, a low temperature of −70 °F (−57 °C) was recorded.
Travel on Montana Highway 200 between Great Falls and Missoula. Once you get to the top of Rogers Pass, look for the USFS Continental Divide Marker and pull into the parking area.
Walk up the steps to the sign and as you are facing it, look for the clump of trees immediately to the left and slightly behind the sign.
Walk behind the clump of trees and at the base under SPOR and branches you’ll find your cold sign. Make sure and dress warm!
