This box is dedicated to my good friend and backpacking companion; the legendary Funhog! She was the first person to welcome me to this crazy pastime. The carved image is of what always marks her campsite! You may want to bring a bright pink marker with you.

Get yourself a good map of the trails around Mt. Hood. Hike the approximate 3 miles up the Vista Ridge trail to it's intersection with the Timberline Trail. Pause and rest awhile then head east (left) on the Timberline. Cross a couple of streams (one good for bottle refills and the other made up of glacial melt water). After approximately .5 mile find the rather obscure trial heading off to the right through the bushes and up hill to Dollar Lake. This is a small pond that is very low on water at this time. There is a nice campsite at the lake but there are better ones just above next to a clear spot. From this clearing there is a small trail (currently lined with small rocks in the clearing) that starts up towards Barrett Spur. From the start at the clearing go up the short switchbacks for approximately 200 steps until you come to the first snag. The box is at the base of this snag well hidden in the brush and beneath a sort of heart shaped rock and piece of wood. There is a young hemlock also growing next to this snag. Please be sure to re-hide this box well since it is right along side the trail.

For more of an adventure and a fantastic view of Mt. Hood continue up the Barrett Spur trail to the viewpoint on the plateau at 7300' .
