This letterbox can be found in the Henry’s Ridge Open Space in Maple Valley, WA. This area is quite large and there are many entrance points. The directions below begin from the Henry’s Ridge Open Space entry in the Maple Woods / Maple Ridge development on the corner of 253rd PL SE and SE 281st Way.

If traveling by car, head south on HWY 169 toward Black Diamond. Turn LEFT onto Maple Ridge Way. This is the entrance for the Maple Woods / Maple Ridge development. Turn RIGHT onto 253rd PL SE. Park on the right hand side of the road. On the left you will see the Henry’s Ridge Open Space Bulletin Board. This is your starting point for this adventure.

Enter the open space and head south (down the hill) on the gravel path. Turn RIGHT onto the STINGER TRAIL. The Stinger Trail is the first trail you will come to on your right. This trail is marked and if you cross a wooden bridge you are on the correct trail. Remain on this trail for approximately 90 steps. At this point, on the left side of the trail, you should see a large hole with a boulder in the middle. On your right you will find two down trees decorated with ferns. Among these ferns on the right you will find our first letter letterbox. Please leave your stamp and hide our box once again in the ferns so that others can find “the treasure” too. If you are done, simply turn around and head back to your car …. but if you are up for another adventure, continue on the STINGER TRAIL.

Box #2
Continue west on the STINGER TRAIL for approximately 430 steps. Soon you will see three large tree stumps … you are getting very close. The trail will split. Take the path on the left and walk along the down tree. It is at the end of the tree on the right hand side among the ferns and stumps that you will find the second treasure. Again, please leave your stamp and hide our box once again in the ferns and stumps so that others can find “the treasure” too. This is a popular spot of children to play, so please make sure the box is covered.

At this point the Stinger Trail is about finished. I recommend you continue west. Soon you will be out of the trees and this trail will intersect with a gravel road, traveled only by bikes, horses, and people. Turn left on the gravel road, stay on this path and you will end up back where you started at the Henry’s Ridge Open Space Bulletin Board.

This trail is kid and dog friendly.

The entire walk should take 20 – 30 minutes, depending upon how long it takes you to find the letter boxes and how many stops you make along the way.

Happy Letterboxing!
